Non-Surgical Buttocks Lift. Stomach Toning while Burning Fat.
A new treatment is now available that uses High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic (HIFEM) technology to achieve two goals simultaneously - build muscles and, depending on the area, permanently destroy fat cells in the area surrounding those muscles.
There are numerous devices and treatments on the market that achieve permanent non-surgical fat reduction, such as –
There are numerous devices and treatments on the market that achieve permanent non-surgical fat reduction, such as –
- Radio Frequency (RF) technology that heats fat cells to destroy them (Vanquish by BTL, truSculpt3D by Cutera etc), and
- Cryo technology that freezes fat cells to destroy them (CoolSculpting by ZELTIQ).
There is now a device and procedure that can not only burn fat, but also build muscle. The device had been originally engineered for the muscle toning, and the trials soon established that the treatment also shrinks the adipose tissue.
Before and after CT scan of the treated abdomen area also shows that the treatment may decrease the abdominal muscle separation.
To achieve these effects, EMSCULPT by BTL utilizes High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology (HIFEM).
The device is currently cleared by FDA in the USA for the stomach area and for the buttocks. Trials show that the overall customer satisfaction after four treatments was 96%.
The protocols (the device settings) for the stomach area and for the buttocks area are different.

The fat cells in the buttocks area of our bodies are more resilient. That combined with the fine-tuned protocol results in the toning and increase of the gluteal muscles, but does NOT lead to the fat destruction. Clinical trials show an improvement in the shape and lifting after four sessions.
Generally, a series of four treatments over the course of two weeks, that is twice a week, is recommended to see the result. The cost is $750 - $1,000 per treatment, which is $3,000 to $4,000 for the full course.
A major lifting rivaling with that from a surgical lift will likely require more sessions, and may end up costing similar to the surgical procedure. However, there are still advantages over the surgery - there is no pain, no downtime, no anesthesia, and as a result - your own, strong and healthy gluteal muscles.

Stomach toning - builds muscles and burns fat
The protocol used on the stomach area both builds the muscles and burns fat. Even though the plate(s) are applied to the abs, and the electromagnetic field acts on the abs, the energy also spreads into the surrounding area, and thus the oblique muscles get tightened along with the abdominal ones.
The procedure works when there is excess fat and it works on people who are already slim and toned and want a step up to the sculpted body. It is a good option for those who were unable to achieve that perfect body they wanted through dieting and exercising alone or who want a great result fast.

Other areas
The manufacturer has also developed a protocol for the leg treatment, and they in the process of receiving FDA clearance for that area.
Finally, regardless of what FDA has cleared a device for, a health care practitioner providing the service may use the device on any muscle group.

A plate is placed on the stomach or two plates are placed on the buttocks. When a treatment is performed in an office, the plate(s) are typically placed directly on the skin so that the plate adheres to the skin. However, the plates can also be used on top of thin clothes.
The provider adjusts the plate(s) location for the most effective muscle contraction because everyone has a slightly different body shape. The intensity is also adjusted along the procedure.
The muscle contraction feeling is somewhat similar to the one at the peak intensity muscle exercise, however, without the associated pain. It is a somewhat unusual contraction, and does not feel like a spasm either.
Also, the muscle contraction by this treatment does not lead to the release of the lactic acid, and there is no soreness afterwards.
The contraction phase is followed by a relaxation phase, the phases alternate several times during the session.
The procedure duration is 30 minutes.
The treatment is not painful, there is no downtime, no swelling, no soreness.

- Application of the High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Field to the muscle produces supramaximal contractions of the treated muscle, up to 20,000 contractions per session, which is unlike anything that can be accomplished with the physical exercise. The muscle is forced to adapt to such an extreme pressure and creates new and stronger protein strands and muscle fibers,
- Further, muscle contractions place a demand for energy on the surrounding fat cells, and because the contractions are so fast and intensive, the released epinephrine signals the fat cells to start supramaximal lipolysis,
- This intensive lipolysis releases a massive volume of free fatty acids that over-accumulate in fat cells, overwhelm them, and that induces fat cell death,
- Dead fat cells are metabolized by the body,
- New stronger muscle is built.
